Summer Trail Series Challenge at Souter

We’re excited to set up a new Summer Trail Series Challenge at Souter Lighthouse this year! Join us for a new unique trail challenge, open to all abilities. Each month there will be new marked & marshalled course & challenge to follow along our beautiful coastline. Keep an eye out for dolphins!

The Trail Series Challenge is a fun community event at Souter Lighthouse – great for meeting new friends, improving your running fitness & training, learning new routes, and a friendly introduction into trail running. The challenges will be between 5km-10km distance each month.

Runners will score points towards a league table and receive bonus points for completing consecutive challenges. Leading 3 male & female will receive a prize at the end of the series.

Location – All runs will be based at Souter Lighthouse, SR6 7NH

Time – All runs will start at 9.30am. Registration from 8.45am-9.20am

Who can take part? non-members and members of all clubs are welcome to take part. Beginners, new runners and children over 12 are also welcome. Challenges are between 5k-10km distance.

Car parking (small charge applies/free for National Trust members) & Toilets available

Breakfast/Refreshments – Join us for breakfast and refreshments at the Souter Lighthouse cafe after the run

Clothing – The weather can be varied so please wear appropriate clothing for the expected weather conditions. Trail shoes are advised throughout the series as the courses are on a mix of trail paths & grass, and can get slippy if wet. Normal runnng trainers may be ok when the weather has been dry.

Challenge 1 – Sunday 22nd May – Welcome to Souter Trails 5km An introductory run to welcome the runners to the challenges ahead. Come along and enjoy the ride! ROUTE MAP

Challenge 2 – Sunday 12th June – Race across the beaches challenge – runners will head in different directions along the coastline and cross two beaches to the North & South – Marsden Bay & Jackie’s Beach – with some nice surprises along the way before returning back to the finish. ROUTE MAP

Challenge 3 – Sunday 24th July – The Team Challenge (5.5km approx each) – runners work in pairs going in different directions round the set course three times (crossing each others paths on the course) and the overall time is given. Runners can run solo and have their time doubled for an overall result. ROUTE MAP

Challenge 4 – Sunday 21st August – The Team Challenge 2 – One Hour Relay. Runners use a lapped course and have 1 full hour to cover as many laps as they can in the given time, working in pairs as one person runs & one rests. Individual runners may complete the challenge solo. RESCHEDULED – NEW DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED


Challenge 5 – Sunday 18th September – The Finale (Elevation Hour Challenge) The most challenging run of the series with a variety of testing climbs and descents for you to enjoy.
