Section 3 – South Shields Boundary Round Section 3 (2.4 miles) Bede’s Way to Water Tower, then cross Marsden Old Quarry to Marsden Grotto. Cross over Nevinson Avenue and head right for approximately 50 metres. 2. Follow the cycle path/trail to the left towards the petrol garage on King George Road. 3. Cross over King George Road at the traffic lights & take the trail path to the right of the garage. 4. Follow this trail path for 1 kilometre up towards the water tower, crossing Sunderland Road half way up. 5. Once you reach the top of the path, take a right and follow the road for 150metres before taking a left up the hill. 6. Follow this road up left for 200metres until you reach a wall with a sign saying “Private Road” 6. Follow this road up for 200metres until you reach a wall with a sign saying “Private Road” 7. At the “Private Road” sign, follow the grass trail to the left for 200metres. This brings you to a gate which leads you onto the public footpath along the South Shields Golf Course. 8. Gate that takes you onto public footpath across South Shields Golf Course 9. Carefully cross the golf course for 300metres, following the yellow posts ahead which highlight the public footpath. 10. Once you reach the other side of the golf course, cross gap in the wall and take a right. 11. Follow the wall on the top of Marsden Old Quarry for approximately 1 kilometre, passing the house high up above the quarry and bringing you onto Lizard Lane. 12. Take the trail passing the house at the top of Marsden Old Quarry. 13. Cross Lizard Lane and follow the trail path to the right of Lizard Lane Caravan Park which takes you onto the coast. 14. follow the trail path to the right of Lizard Lane Caravan Park which takes you onto the coast. 15. Cross over the coast road and run left towards Marsden Grotto 16. Reach Marsden Grotto
